There has been some misunderstanding regarding statements made in recent Town Board meeting minutes concerning data centers.
To clarify, there is no data center project currently proposed, approved, or under review by the Town of Volney.
The discussion reflected the Town Board's effort to be proactive and informed about emerging development trends that could potentially affect communities in the future. As part of that effort, the Town Attorney was asked whether he had any knowledge or experience regarding data centers. Following that discussion, a temporary moratorium was suggested as a tool that municipalities sometimes use to allow time to research an issue, review existing regulations, and determine whether additional local protections may be appropriate.
The Town's goal is to ensure that any future development proposals—of any type—are carefully evaluated and that local laws adequately protect the interests of Town residents.
